Walking Boots and Walking Sandals

All enthusiasts know that there are few feelings better than heading out into the majestic countryside for some serious walking. Whatever the conditions, the feeling of freedom attained through escaping from our urban centres and a busy life is always palpable when we see the open country stretch out before us and taste the country air. We don’t need much to enjoy the great outdoors since everything is essentially free, but we do need to make sure we’re well prepared in terms of footwear, and these days there’s no shortage of options, from traditional walking boots to modern sandals.

Diversity

These days we have a range of footwear to choose from when we prepare for outdoor pursuits. Gone are the days when brown leather walking boots were the only choice for dedicated walkers. While they are still a much-loved feature of most walkers’ apparel, these days there’s more to choose from and it pays to be aware of what’s on offer in order to make an informed choice. Nowadays, modern and lightweight walking shoes are an attractive option for many. Walking shoes tend to be versatile in that they’re equally at home on the riverbank, in woodland or in our towns. Two other types of footwear available to walkers are boots and sandals, and enthusiasts may be interested to learn that they have more in common than you might think.

Walking Boots

Walking boots tend provide users with bulky support for many difficult outdoor environments. They’re usually waterproof and afford protection from rocks, plants and even dangerous animals on the ground. Good quality walking boots will last for a long time and protect feet from painful damage over long distances. On the down side, walking boots tend to be heavy and to require maintenance in terms of protection and additional waterproofing. There can be no doubt that in certain conditions dedicated walking boots are by far the best option. In snow and on rough terrain they can’t be beaten for protection and peace of mind. There are other options for walkers who aren’t so demanding, however.

Walking Sandals

Some enthusiasts get caught up in seeking the most in terms of protection for their feet when leaving them open to the elements is by far the better option. In the summertime, when rains are welcome and we visit many different types of locations, walking sandals can provide everything we need to stay safe and comfortable. Boots and shoes designed for walking are often marketed as ‘breathable’ when in reality nothing could allow feet to breathe better than sandals. Most modern designs are efficient, safe and dedicated to providing hikers with practicality. Look for traction, a multi-surface grip and a robust design.
