NDUNGE School project

Ndunge School Project

The Objective: The Centre Scolaire Ndunge (school complex) consists of a primary and secondary school. The school buildings are in a very poor state, the roof leaks in nearly each room, there are not enough benches, teachers are underpaid and there is no library or any sanitary provisions, but nevertheless the children come to school because they want to study. CAF wants to support this school by creating an ongoing and sustainable source of income. This way they will not only be able to do immediate and urgent repair works to their buildings, it will allow them to create a long-term source of income for improving their school environment.

Ndunge School Project

The Opportunity: Article 26 of the Declaration of Human Rights states "Everyone has the right to education". The group of volunteers that supports this school tries to provide this right to the best of their abilities. With CAF's support, the children will be able to study in an improved environment.

The Solution: CAF intends to reinforce the school's income-generating activities, namely pig-farming and gardening. The school currently has a small pig-farm, in which CAF will invest for it to grow a little bigger. They also grow vegetables - CAF will reinforce this activity so that in the future, with the income of the sales of pigs and vegetables, the school will be able to do the necessary maintenance works and build the missing infrastructure. By reinforcing and further developing these existing activities, we will fulfill CAF's mission, namely:

  • to improve the health and education of children in impoverished communities (supporting a run-down school)
  • in ways that respect the environment, through sustainable projects identified as priorities by local children, parents and community members (agricultural and pig-breeding projects)

Cost: € 3000 will be invested into the long-term gardening and pig-breeding project and into immediate repairs of the building.
