Norfolk Beaches: Don't Forget Hemsby Holiday Parks!
The county of Norfolk is renowned for its fabulous coastline and it’s growing more fascinating year on year, due to environmental change. From the area popularly known as ‘the Wash’ along to Sheringham, the sea is in retreat, leaving sandbanks and silted harbours, whilst from around Cromer and along the coast, the sea is moving in, eroding and undermining the clay cliffs. Such changes make Norfolk beaches fascinating places to visit – who knows how long some will remain in their current state and whether they will remain accessible to the tourist accommodations that have grown up around them – imagine Hemsby holiday parks without their proximity to the beach? Here then, are a few must-visit beaches for your next trip to Norfolk:
-
Old Hunstanton: this beach has the local ‘Blue Flag’ award: it meets national standards of good quality water, plus high standards of safety, services and environmental management – all reassuring for beach-goers, particularly families. The beach is beautifully isolated and peaceful, ideal for walkers but also popular with kite surfers, due to the fantastic surf and lack of crowding in the water!
-
Wells-next-the-sea: certainly a beach to watch with interest as it is in the area of the tidal take-over! This is one of Norfolk’s quaintest beaches, with brightly painted beach huts standing to attention on the sand.
-
Weybourne: up on the North-side of Norfolk, Weybourne offers a stark contrast to its glamorous sandy counterparts, boasting instead a patchwork pebble beach which marks the start of Norfolk’s cliff side and a history involving smugglers!
-
Cromer: another blue flag winning beach! A north coast gem that offers everything: sandy beaches, a cliff backdrop with cliff-side walks; family-friendly amenities and of course the chance of Cromer-crabbing – a close up encounter with the local marine life!
-
Mundsley: more blue flags here! Again a beach with everything: sand, pebbles, beach huts and safe swimming, all of which make the resort extremely popular with families. Thankfully there are plenty of places to stay nearby!
-
Hemsby: with its position firmly on Norfolk’s east coast, Hemsby is one of the more hidden jewels in Norfolk’s crown. The beach is such a part of the village of Hemsby that the two are separated only by a wall of spectacular sand dunes which lead on to the fabulous sandy beaches which stretch on for several miles in each direction. At the moment, Hemsby holiday parks are well placed to serve not only the beach, but also act as a great base from which to tour the other attractions of the county.
So who knows if any of the beloved accommodation at any of these beloved beaches will change over the years in line with the environmental changes going on around? It could be a holiday project that just keeps you going back to find out!
